Lee-Ken Choo

Adjunct Professor in Management

Lee is a consultant, business/project developer and investor and previously served as a Senior Advisor in the Division of Energy Market Oversight, Office of Enforcement (OE) at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). His duties included tracking and assessing physical and financial market interactions, including risk, credit and capital flows. He also served as the liaison with the PJM Market Monitor and CFTC Market Oversight.

As Vice President, Lee co-led the start-up of Aquila Energy Capital, which provided financing to oil and gas producers and other energy-related clients and was the asset and portfolio manager for this portfolio of financing transactions, which approached $1 billion. He also served as director, Wholesale Gas Structure Desk at Aquila Energy Trading. Prior to Aquila, Lee worked at The Coastal Corporation’s international gas project development and producer financing businesses. For almost two decades at Enron and its predecessor Northern Natural Gas, he worked in various functions including finance, derivatives, risk management, marketing, planning, analysis, engineering and project management. He started his career at Sargent & Lundy, Inc. as a design engineer, and later as an engineering specialist investigating the failure of coal bunkers and developing the structural design of nuclear power plants against impact forces.

Lee earned his MBA from the University of Houston. His MS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and BS from the University of California, Berkeley, were both in Civil/Structural Engineering. Lee is a registered Professional Engineer, and is an Adjunct Professor in Management at Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
