Jones Partners to Host Finance Faculty Forum on U.S. Financial Crisis

On Thursday, Oct. 30 2008, finance faculty members of Rice University’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management will hold a forum to discuss the current financial crisis facing the U.S. The forum, “The Financial Crisis: Causes and Consequences,” which is sponsored by the Jones Partners and the World Affairs Council of Houston, will be held at McNair Hall in the Jones School.

Jeff Fleming is Professor of Finance and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. A member of the Jones School faculty since 1993, he teaches a course on futures and option contracts. His research interests include option pricing and volatility modeling. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University.


Jefferson Duarte is Gerald D. Hines Visiting Associate Professor of Real Estate Finance. He teaches Real Estate Finance and his current research projects include residential mortgage derivatives, credit spreads, and information asymmetry. He has worked as a visiting scholar with Freddie Mac and was an associate on the fixed income proprietary trading desk at J.P. Morgan Chase. He earned his Ph.D. and MBA from the University of Chicago.

Gustavo Grullon is an Associate Professor of Finance. He joined the Jones School faculty in 1998 and currently teaches courses on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. His research focuses on corporate finance, with an emphasis on payout policy and real options. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University.

George Kanatas is Jesse H. Jones Professor of Finance. A member of the Jones School Faculty since 1994, he currently teaches Economics of Incentives and Corporate Financial Strategy. His research focuses on banking and corporate finance. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Kansas and his Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Barbara Ostdiek is an Associate Professor of Finance and Academic Director of the El Paso Corporation Finance Center. A member of the faculty since 1994, she teaches Economic Environment of Business and Investments. Her research focuses on market volatility and information flow in financial markets. She received her Ph.D. from Duke University.                      

James P. Weston is an Associate Professor of Finance. He joined the Jones School faculty in 2000 and currently teaches the core MBA finance course. His research focuses on market microstructure and corporate finance. He is a former assistant economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia.
